NDC to Boycott Deputy Trade Minister's Vetting

The Minority caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has announced that they will boycott the vetting of Deputy Minister for Trade designate, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo.

The NDC minority caucus in parliament made their intention known to the media during a press conference, delivered by the Minority leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

The minority argued that, the President is not being sensitive to the economic challenges the country faces each passing day. Dr. Ato Forson stated that, instead of reducing the size of government to reduce the huge expenditure of government, the Akufo-Addo led government is rather increasing the size of his government.

The minority highlighted a number of severe challenges, including a crippling economic crisis, food insecurity, debt default due to excessive borrowing, government corruption, and wasteful expenditures as their reason for boycotting the deputy ministerial vetting of Mr. Ahenkorah.

They emphasized their refusal to participate in decisions that would further burden the already struggling Ghanaian, especially given the financial strain of the bloated government.

Dr. Ato Forson, on behalf of the minority caucus said, “Members of the Minority Caucus on the Appointments Committee of Parliament will not participate in today’s vetting of the President’s nominee for the post of Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.”

“The Caucus is affronted by the already large size of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and its poor economic performance.”

“We are again unable to support this nomination by President Akufo-Addo at this time because our country has gone through (and continues to go through) very difficult periods, including crippling economic crisis, food insecurity, debt default as a result of excessive borrowing, corruption in government and wasteful and reckless expenditures.”
