The Electoral Commission of Ghana began the Limited Voter Registration exercise on the 7th May, 2024, for persons who have turned 18 and those who could not get the opportunity to register to have their names captured in the commission’s register.

But the exercise was met with some challenges in the early hours of the day.

The electoral body has been offering explanations relative to this morning's happenings.

In a statement issued today and signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Michael Boadu, the EC stated that they observed some technical hitches with the internet connectivity in a number of their registration centres.

These hitches delayed proceedings, however, the Electoral Commission was able to resolve the challenges thereby making way for the continuation of the registration process.

Excerpts from the statement read, "The commission wishes to bring to the attention of the General Public that, following our monitoring of the Voters registration Exercise this morning, we observed some technical challenges with internet connectivity in a number of our centres. This delayed the start of the registration at a number of the registration centres."

"We are happy to note that by 12pm, the technical issues in most of the Registration Centers had been resolved. Consequently, the Registration Exercise is proceeding smoothly in almost all the Registration Centres nationwide," the statement read.

The commission gave the assurance that it is committed to ensuring a smooth registration exercise and appealed to the general public to remain calm as it finds solutions to any challenges that may arise during the period of registration.
