EC Limited Registration: Don't Allow Politicians To Register Your Minor - Atik Warns Parents, Guardians

Former General Secretary of the People's National Convention, Atik Mohammed has cautioned parents and guardians not to allow their children to be used by politicians to engage in electoral fraud.

Atik Mohammed, speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, stressed the consequences that registering minors in the ongoing limited registration exercise by the Electoral Commission will have on their future.

He noted that the Ghana Card system has helped in identifying minors, so if a person fakes his or her child's age, it will adversely affect the child's job opportunities.

"So, don't accept for anyone to use your child to register while you know they are not eighteen years old", Atik advised.

Atik Mohammed also warned the political parties to desist from this culture stating "don't use this as advantage to recruit minors".

He also argued that registering minors will burden the EC as they have to undergo another exercise of removing the ineligible names.

"Why do we intentionally burden or overburden the Electoral Commission when we know that what we are doing is wrong?"

The Electoral Commission has commenced a nationwide limited registration exercise for persons who have turned eighteen.

The exercise began today, May 7 and will end on May 20.
