Ghanaians Already Know Your 'Crisis' Track Record; Say Something Different! - Nana Akomea Replies Mahama

Managing Director of STC, Nana Akomea, has replied former President John Dramani Mahama after the latter, delivering a speech to Ghanaians on Monday, September 6, 2021, called for a change of government in 2024.

Former President John Mahama says voting out the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) from power is the panacea to Ghanaians' economic problems.

Speaking at an event organized by the Professionals Forum (PROFORUM) of the NDC in collaboration with the Center for Ethical Governance and Administration (CEGA) dubbed "The State of Ghana's Economy - The Score Card" at the University of Ghana, Mr. Mahama expounded; “When I called for a change in government in 2024 as the first step towards halting this hemorrhage of badly needed resources through corruption and holding offending officials to account, our friends in government took offense but it remains the only viable way to save the public purse in the face of abundant evidence that nothing will be done about the situation”.

The former President further opined that the government is hiding under the guise of the COVID-19 pandemic to make excuses to cover her inability to save the economy.

" . . most of the gains we made and bequeathed to this government have been eroded and we have been plunged into further economic crisis.”

“COVID-19 has become the convenient whipping boy and has been cited as the reason for the crisis we face now and the attendant economic hardships” but “it is however not the main reason why we are in the current hole we find ourselves. COVID-19 only became a pretext for reckless election-related spending, which produced the largest-ever budget deficit in the recent economic history of Ghana last year,” he emphasized.

But Nana Akomea believes Ghanaians will not buy the assertions made by President Mahama.

According to him, the citizens are already privy to his (Mahama) track record of plunging the nation into crisis which the Akufo-Addo administration has remedied and placed Ghana in a good shape.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Nana Akomea offered an advice to Mr. Mahama saying, "in the year 2009, when President Mahama was Vice President, they were given the chance to investigate what the NPP did. What did they do between 2009 and 2016? So, if he has something different to say for Ghanaians to vote for the NDC, he should rather put that across because when you ruled for eight years, you didn't say we shouldn't vote for you again because of that. So, tell Ghanaians something different . . . but if he has nothing to say, then don't talk at all".
