Three Suspects Arrested In NPP, NDC Clash At Nkrankwanta

The police in the Bono Region have arrested three people suspected to have links with last Saturday's clash between some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Nkrankwanta that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two people.

The incident happened at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District following a disagreement between the two groups.

Both groups had mobilised themselves in the area in an attempt to ensure that foreigners were not transported from neighbouring Cote d'Ivoire to register in the mop up mass registration exercise which was being organised by the Electoral Commission at its District office in the area.

The clash reportedly occurred at a place where the supporters had grouped themselves separate from where the EC's district office was located.

The police told Graphic Online that the incident happened at about 500 metres away from the EC's district office.

The three suspects arrested by the police are Ali Musah, 33, Ibrahim Acquah, 33 and Amos Aning, 38.

Graphic Online's Bono Region correspondent, Emmanuel Adu-Gyamerah reports that the deceased, Kofi Stephen, 36 also known as Larbeth who was pronounced dead at the Dormaa-Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital.

He was injured in the clash together with two others, Kwame Gutan, 33 and Elliasu Gabriel, 45.

They were all sent to the Dormaa West District District Hospital at Nkrankwanta before Kofi Laberth was referred to the Dormaa-Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital.

What happened

A clash between some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday resulted in the death of one person.

Two people who sustained gunshot wounds are currently receiving treatment at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital.

A video seen by Graphic Online showed a pickup vehicle and a motorbike in flames. [Watch video below]

According to the reports, the clash occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2020 during which guns were fired.

It said those who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were rushed to the nearby Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital but one of them identified only as Kofi Labatu was pronounced dead on arrival.

Confirmation

The Member of Parliament for Dormaa West, Mr Ali Maiga Halidu confirmed the incident in an interview with Graphic Online.

He confirmed the death of Kofi Stephen adding that he was a member of the NPP while one of the injured was from the side of the NPP and the other from the NDC.

According to him, the gunshots that killed Kofi Stephen and injured the two others were fired by the security personnel.

Police reinforcement from the Bono Regional Police Command has has been sent to the district to ensure peace and order.
