President Akufo-Addo To Commission New Kumasi Airport On May 10

President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Friday, May 10, 2024 commission the newly constructed Kumasi airport.

The airport, under the name "Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport", is poised to commence full operations by June this year; ahead of planned schedule. 

The official commissioning is in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport.

The President will during the event unveil the new "Terminal Building and ATC Tower and Radar System" of the airport.

Dignitaries to attend the event are the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister of Transport and Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, among others.

Currently, the facility, which is now under the management of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, is undergoing equipment testing essential for both domestic and international flights.

Estimated at a cost of over $75 million, the Kumasi International Airport project started in November 2018 and involves the expansion of the runway, construction of a new passenger terminal building with modern state-of-the-art facilities and a new apron for more and even bigger aircraft multiple service facilities.
