Tema New Town Clash: Arrest All the Youth Who Attacked the Militar - Atik to Police

Atik Mohammed has called on the Police to arrest all persons involved in  the attack on Naval personnel at Tema New Town in the Greater Accra Region.

The incident happened on Friday, April 12, 2024, during a street procession organized by the youth as part of the annual Kplejoo festival.

Tensions escalated when the youth reached the Eastern Naval Command and this resulted in a violent confrontation where the civilians attacked the Naval base destroying their properties.

Following the incident, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning to the youth to abstain from such actions or they will be met with “appropriate response”.

“We wish, however, to caution the youth of Tema that any further attacks on our installations or personnel would be met with the appropriate response”, the Military warned in a statement.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Atik Mohammed further cautioned the youth to heed the warning by the Military stressing “it is not for fun that we have declared some places as security zones” and that attacking the Military calls for a response that the youth will live to regret.

“I think we are taking the friendliness for granted…and it’s not helpful,” he lamented.

He stated that should the youth take the Naval personnel or soldiers for granted and resort to attacks on them next time, “I’m not sure we will be here lamenting the audacious activity or actions of these youth. We will be discussing how many people lost their limbs, how many people are in the hospital and so on and these are things we can prevent”.

The former PNC General Secretary wondered why the Police haven’t arrested most of the perpetrators, stating they need to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure no youth who engaged in the clash is spared to serve as deterrent to others.

“They should arrest them and bring them before our courts for justice,” he asserted.
