We've Left Our Youth On 'Auto-pilot' To Misbehave - Prof. Joseph Osafo

Head of Psychology Department at the University of Ghana, Professor Joseph Osafo says the society, particularly parents and guardians as well as Universities, should adopt measures that help the youth imbibe good human values.

Prof. Joseph Osafo expressed worry over the growing rate of a section of the youth engaging in drug abuse and drug trafficking.

According to him, the youth is becoming more and more interested in dealing in hard drugs because "we've left them on auto-pilot" to misbehave.

He charged parents, guardians and educational institutions to hold programmes that will inculcate into the youth the discipline and values to shape their life for better.

"The basic lessons that our children must know like hardwork, open your mind, embrace what you can do now and take right steps; human values...hardworking ethic including networking, our children should understand all these things," he said, adding "if we leave our children on the streets saying miracles can come, so just be on the streets, we should note that out of 100; if one comes out, the 99 are still liabilities and we have to work on them".

He made these comments on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
