WASSCE Riots: Students Will Bear Full Cost Of Damages Before Results Are Released – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it will not release the results of “students” in schools where destructions took place.

In a statement signed by its Director General, Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, students are expected to pay the full cost of all damages in their various schools before their results will be released to them.

“All students who are in schools where destruction of school property occurred are to be surcharged for the full cost of the damages. Results if these students will be withheld till thy have fully paid for the full cost if the items destroyed.” The statement reads

The statement further said, “Further, all acts of vandalism and other criminal acts must be reported to the security agencies for further investigation.”

GES following a crunch meeting, Monday, August 10, 2020, rescinded its earlier dismissal of some 14 final-year students identified in various videos that have gone viral on social media inciting and participating in vandalism on various school campuses after sitting their first few WASSCE papers.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has also relocated the examination centre at the Bright Senior High School (SHS) in Kukurantumi to a different place, following attacks on its officials and a journalist by the final-year students who were, allegedly incited by their Proprietor Mr. Bright Amponsah.
