Covid-19: Frontline Health Workers Must Be Counselled To Avert Post Traumatic Experiences - Anyani-Boadum

Medical workers, could suffer mental health problems if government doesn't put in place plans to erase their anxieties after leading the nation against the war against COVID-19.

Revered Minister of God, Rev. Dr. Anyani-Boadum has placed a call on the Government of Ghana to make it a priority to protect all health workers participating in the fight against the virus that has shut the global economy.

In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, the concerned Minister noted that due to experiences the frontline health workers are going through, there is a possibility that some would have post traumatic experiences.

For him, the nation's foremost "concern to protect the public, should start with our health care providers" working tirelessly to curb the spread of the disease.

He therefore called on the Ministry of Health to take the first step in ensuring that frontline health workers are protected from "any form of physical and psychological doom" the battle against the novel virus could leave behind.

Rev. Dr. Anyani-Boadum commened government for providing personal protective equipment to health workers but advocated that "in addition to steps already taken to encourage them by giving them the PPEs, we must not lose sight of the mental health crisis"

In such traumatic moments, the respected man of God explains that it is imperative on government to put in place interventions to promote the mental wellbeing of health workers- especially those fighting the COVID-19.

He further explained that nurses earmarked for treating patients who have contracted the virus "suffer adverse psychological effect".

Rev. Anyani-Boadum advocated for counselling sessions to be organized for each frontline health worker noting that "Psychologists must assess anxiety and stress for those in long contact with covid 19 patients".

He called on the Ministry of Health to ensure this is done to augment the works measures President Akufo-Addo has set in place to make Ghana win this battle.
